H Mia και η Frida γνωρίζονται για πρώτη φορά στο πάρτυ αρραβώνων των γονιών τους. Ο πατέρας της Mia ετοιμάζεται να παντρευτεί την μητέρα της Frida, πράγμα που θα κάνει τις Mia και Frida ετεροθαλή αδερφές. Η Mia, έχει χρόνια να επισκεφτεί τον πατέρα της και στο πάρτυ έρχεται με τον σύντροφο της Tim, τον οποίο πρόκειται να παντρευτεί. Όσο γνωρίζονται καλύτερα οι Mia και Frida, έντονα συναισθήματα αρχίζουν και γεννιούνται μεταξύ τους. Η σχέση τους θα φέρει τα πάνω κάτω σε αυτές αλλά και στους συγγενείς τους με δραματικές εξελίξεις.

The Women’s Gathering has grown so much over the last year and a half that in order to continue we have to expand! So, after hearing many requests from different people in our community and giving it some thought, we have decided to open two new event lines that will hopefully give expression to restless creativity, answer some unrequited longings and help fund all of our growing activities. The first of these events is “eVɘ”, a dance party for the queer community, debuting Saturday night, April 13th at the Bass Club in central Jerusalem.

“eVɘ” hopes to promote women, women-identified and queer DJs and offers amateur DJs a chance to develop their skills. Many of the main DJs are brought in from Tel Aviv while the warm up DJs are local, building bridges between the two cities. These parties are designed to provide an open, loving and celebratory queer atmosphere and to encourage women’s club music in the Holy city of Jerusalem. Straight friends of all genders and gay men are welcome as well.

In 2011, DJ Mag published it’s list of the top 100 DJ’s in the world and guess what? Not even one woman was included in the list.

We are now decades after the feminist movement first brought awareness to the Western world of it’s own perpetuation of gender discrimination. And we are the inheritors to massive efforts by countless individuals and organizations to correct linguistic, intellectual, social, political and economic injustices that have defined our culture for millennia. Yet despite these efforts, most of us are acutely aware of the persistent gender inequality in the marketplace and society in general, as countless studies show that world-wide women still earn less money, occupy fewer managerial positions, are hired less frequently, and are generally discriminated against in the workplace. But to some of us it might be shocking to learn that this inequality extends to ALL social spheres, even those most ‘liberal, progressive and even radical’. The night life scene is one of these spheres, and for decades it has avoided making necessary changes to right historical injustices against women. But women and all those who support the feminist cause are refusing to keep silent.

In 2002, Anat Nir and Dana Ziv started “She.J” a revolutionary new initiative to promote women DJs. At that time a ‘woman DJ’ was almost an oxymoron, and they struggled to find enough DJs to run their fledgling event. Since then, the She.J event has grown each year, encouraging young talent and nurturing the more seasoned artists to perfect their skills. Today, nearly 11 years later, it hosts an overwhelming number of diverse and talented woman DJs who are eager to join its legacy. The success of Dana and Anat’s initiative has attracted women from all over Israel who are interested in DJing to flock to Tel Aviv, making it one of the hottest women’s DJ scenes in the world. However, this has also created a ‘brain drain’ throughout the rest of the country. And this is where eVɘ comes in…

eVɘ was created to provide the LBTQQI community in Jerusalem with a dance party of its own and to provide a platform for women, women-identified and queer DJs in and around Jerusalem to develop their DJing skills. The event will showcase the hottest women DJs Israel has to offer (She.J DJs), encouraging Tel Aviv based women DJs to travel outside their beloved city and share their music with the other parts of the country. Each professional DJ will be paired with a Jerusalem based amateur who will have the opportunity to open for them and then stay on stage to learn live from their seasoned mentor. It is our hope that this event will improve queer life and culture and the women’s DJ scene here in Jerusalem as well as create musical bridges between the two sister cities, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

The Women’s Gathering has grown tremendously over the past year and a half. It has been organized and produced by a small group of dedicated volunteers (you know who you are) who have given their time and energy to help create queer women’s community here in Jerusalem. The time has come to expand our activities, and in order to do so, we are introducing two new unique events to the Jerusalem nightlife scene. The first of these events is “eVɘ”, a dance party promoting women DJ’s from both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. “eVɘ” opened 13.4.13 with DJ Noam Weiner and DJ Michal Serr, and successfully packed the Bass Club. The second of these events is “Lilith”…

“Lilith ~ music art” is an evening of music, poetry, art and dance which promotes women’s creative expression in the Holy city of Jerusalem. The new line will offer concerts from the best musicians and performers that Israel has to offer. Following the concert, there will be a special Women’s Gathering Acoustic Edition which will provide a platform for women, women-identified and queer peoples to express themselves via the various artistic mediums with which they choose to create.
